Day three at BEA was, if it’s even possible, filled with more books than the days before. It began with mad dashes to the Maggie Stiefvater and Emily Giffin signing lines and ended with a lazy final stroll through the sadly emptying exhibition hall with what feels like a million books sandwiched between.
Our day started off as usual with a long wait to get into the hall and an even longer line at Starbucks but all that caffeine gave us the energy to make it to the front of our first signing lines in record time. We even had a chance to snag a book for Jennifer on the way past (we’d tell you what it was but it’s a secret shhh 😉 ). Melinda and Jess were at the front of the Maggie Stiefvater line which was a complete shock–we expected to get beat to the front by other excited fans. Even more unexpected was this:
I’m still not sure this really happened but that’s David Levithan handing out books and being the assistant on the signing line. WHAT?!?! We were completely surprised and even more so when he chatted with us the entire time we were waiting, which because of front of the line passes, was considerable.
Dottie had equal success and a lovely time meeting one of her favorite authors, Emily Giffin.
After our early success with the signing lines we continued to hit pretty much everything on our lists including getting to meet Alexandra Bracken, Marissa Meyer, Justin Cronin, Jill Shalvis, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Kami Garcia, and Sara Shepard.
Later in the afternoon we all went to the Reading Group Guides BEA Book Group Speed Dating session where we met 16 different publishers and heard about some wonderful books they recommended for book clubs and discussion groups. We walked out of there with SO MANY amazing reads!
This is just a one of the many tables of books that were at the event and a small sample of the titles discussed. A few of the ones that made it to the top of our lists for the day were The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, The Book that Matters Most, Inheriting Edith, The Motion of Puppets, The Next, and Mother’s Tell Your Daughters. But that list is just the tip of the iceberg really for the ever growing stack of wonderful books we amassed today. Take a peek.
This is where our BEA adventures end but not without one final tote.

Gah I didn’t see that Sourcebooks tote, but OMG I LOVE!!!! Also, David Levithan was running the signing line at E.Lockhart’s book last year at BEA and I was like ???????? He wrote my name on a post-it for the dedication and I was surprised I even was able to say my name I was so nervous and surprised to meet him so randomly!! That speed dating thing sounded really cool. That’s awesome you were able to go…. looks like you guys got a ton of books!

Did you see, Bookreporter may be doing a NY event this summer similar to the speed dating. If you’re more local to NY it may be something to look out for 🙂
