What do you do when you’re nineteen years old are find out that you’re going blind? Hide it from your friends and set out on a mission conquer your bucket list of course. Or at least that’s what Nicole Kear did. She’s the author of the touching, thought provoking, and let’s face it, super fun memoir, Now I See You and is also our guest for this week’s Ten Questions.You can read our full review of Nicole’s memoir, Now I See You, here. Bookish Devices: What is your favorite word?
Nicole Kear: Wow, this changes. When I was a teen, it used to be sesquipedalian. Not anymore. I really like the word scintillating.
BD: What is your least favorite word?
NK: Impactful.
BD: What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
NK: Humor. Kindness.
BD: What turns you off?
NK: Self importance. Lack of a sense of humor.
BD: What is your favorite curse word?
NK: This one is TOO HARD. So many to choose from! When pressed, I’d have to say, “fuck.”
BD: What sound or noise do you love?
NK: My children’s laughter. Cornbally, but absolutely true.
BD: What sound or noise do you hate?
NK: My children fighting. (Which I hear, constantly).
BD: What is your favorite flavor cupcake?
NK: Hmmmn, really hard. There is a REALLY good Sea Salt and Chocolate one here in Brooklyn that’s so tasty. Also, I am a sucker for RV. That’s hipster language for Red Velvet.
BD: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
NK: Librarian in the kids section of a library.
BD: What profession would you not like to do?
NK: Carcass Removal in NYC. (Did you know that’s a thing?? It IS)
