This is a Young Adult first time published author and I was so impressed with this book! Full disclosure that I semi know her online from seeing her in readerly discussions – so when I saw that she had published a novel I knew I had to read it right away.

Rob and Evie meet early on in high school and are both pretty nerdy, shy, and trying to blend into the crowd. Fast forward to senior year where both of their lives have drastically changed and the two aren’t even friends. Rob is a football hero and Evie has gone through a lot and just wishes she could be invisible. When they’re assigned to be lab partners Rob is elated while Evie is just angry they have to spend time together.

Okay, with that short synopsis out of the way…this book had me on a roller coaster! Going into it I knew there was a cliffhanger, so I was prepared for it. As long as I know about them ahead of time I can enjoy the book freely and I really did. Part of the reason for the roller coaster of emotions is that Rob and Evie just are so freaking adorable. They’re both really smart and competing for the top of their class. I love smart characters in books so when they would debate things regarding one of their classes I loved it. Neither character was what they appeared on the surface and I enjoyed getting to know them more in depth. Rob was swoon-worthy and what every person wants to believe athletes are underneath their gruff exteriors. Both of them are really fragile and Cuic does a wonderful job of revealing that slowly.

There are some excellent humorous moments and really touching ones as well. Watching these two fall for each other was great and I thought more than once how surprising it was that this was a first time author as I was reading. And then. THEN. That ending…it made me rethink what I had just read and realize there was even more to what I just read. The ending made me think of Paper Princess by Erin Watt in how it was a big cliffhanger but I was okay with it…and how I NEED the second book right now. But it comes out this fall so it’s not a super long wait thankfully!

Now, go read the book and come back here and discuss it with me!!
