Matt and Bubba… not exactly the names of talking dogs who deliver the benefits of being positive. And yet they do…

I recently learned of Mr. Gordon at a seminar at work. Because we deal with so many people from all walks of life and levels of positivity as well as negativity, I wanted some insight into my own status and why it changes depending on the location and situation.

This book explains how we all have two dogs inside of us. There’s Matt and there’s Bubba. As Mr. Gordon illustrates it, one dog is positive, happy, optimistic, and hopeful. The other dog is negative, mad, sad, pessimistic, and fearful. A struggle takes place between the two dogs on a regular basis, but the one that wins is the one that is fed the most. Feed the negativity and you will become that. Conversely, the more positivity is fed, the more you are positive. I guess the old adage “You are what you eat” is true.

While this book isn’t meant for serious issues in life, it does reveal how we can convert ourselves in the basic daily living activities that we all do. Heartfelt and touching, The Positive Dog provides strategies as well as the benefits of being positive. Who knew that positive people live longer? Positive people have more friends. I especially liked that positive people who regularly express positive emotions are more resilient when facing stress, challenges, and adversity. Imagine having a super power like resilience? The possibilities in life would be so easy to face!

The Positive Dog is a quick and easy read at only 128 pages, but it embeds into the brain that it’s possible to go through life happy, productive, and healthy. Negativity takes away from these things.

I’ll end this review with a quote from one of my favorite positive perspective films: Harvey, starring Jimmy Stewart… <<Years ago my mother used to say to me, she’d say, “In this world, Elwood, you must be,” — she always called me Elwood — “In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant.” Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.>>
