Laughter truly is the best medicine. Catnapped! isn’t just funny… it’s sidesplitting funny.
Walking through the library I found myself drawn to the cover of this book, pulled it off the shelf, looked it over, and put it back where it belonged. After another circle around the library, I found myself in front of this book again and this time it went with me to the checkout counter. Catnapped! is the 13th book in the Dead End Job series, a group of cozy mysteries, and filled with belly laughs that keep on going from cover to cover.
Nanci Hays is an attorney who has been hired by Trish Barrymore to locate her missing show cat, January’s Jubilee Justine, and sets her married private investigator duo, Helen Hawthorne and Phil Sagemont, off to investigate the possible catnapping. The PIs discover a dead body (Trish’s soon-to-be ex, Mort), so Helen goes undercover in a cattery with the impression that Trish is innocent, where pampered felines get the royal treatment. Cat shows are serious business for those involved, revealing obsessive cat owners and many possible murder suspects.
The investigation boils when in the meantime Helen and Phil’s landlady is arrested for the murder of her ex-husband of 30 years who recently reappeared on the scene. Both stories intertwine and race at competitive speeds to resolve in only two weeks, but don’t feel rushed. This book is remarkable. The relationships, character development, and controlled chaos exceeded any of my expectations.
If you’re looking for an engaging, hilarious, and all around great cozy mystery, you’ll want to read this book. Best impulse book I’ve picked up in a while. Big five stars!
