Put on your hat, coat and gloves for this story. First Light takes you deep into snowy Yukon Territory on a frigid adventure.

The cover of a book is what grabs my attention first when I’m scrolling through NetGalley. Then it’s up to the description to seal the deal of whether I request the book or not. By the time I was ready to read First Light I had forgotten what it was about. So I began reading with a blank slate.

The book begins with a father wanting to take a road trip with his wife and son because the parents have a secret to tell the son. I was immediately intrigued about this secret. What could the parents be so frightened about their son learning about them? During the car ride, they reveal their experience surviving a plane crash ten years before. Once again I was thinking, what’s so secretive about the fact that you survived a plane crash? I didn’t get it! But I sure would by the end.

The focus of the story shifts from the road trip to the details of Daniel and Kerry’s life. How they met, where they worked and the details of the plane crash. The entire story is well written. My stomach was in knots the entire time. The details of the crash and the story of survival were hard for me to read. The story leaped off the page and put me right there with the characters. You’re still wondering about that secret, right? It’s a pretty good one and surprised me. You’ll have to read the book for yourself to find out what happens. Just do it! You won’t regret it.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.
