2 of my trusted book chat friends have raved about this book on and off for the last year. Then when I was looking for a new audiobook I found that Christine Lakin narrated it. I’m a big fan of hers – I’d listened to her narrate the Parasitology books and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. All of those books were 5 star audiobooks and her narration was a big part of it.

This book is essentially Will and Kate fan fiction but I’ve read fan fiction before and some of it is pretty great! I have zero idea if this book got its starts in that area but even if it did I don’t think it matters. Bex is an American who goes to school in England and meets the English prince Nicholas. Romance and hilarity and some heartache ensures from there.

I would rate the plot and story itself 4 stars but with the narration that easily raises it to 5 stars. The story in the first 25% or so is quirky and funny with a cast of secondary characters that I couldn’t get enough of. Joss, with her ridiculous clothing line she designs, cracked me up every time. Freddie, Nick’s brother, was hilarious at every turn and someone I am really hoping for a stand alone book of his very own. Even the Queen was great. Lacey, Bex’s twin, was one I didn’t care for so much…but I could see the need for her. She wasn’t exactly villainous, just annoying.

This was a long audiobook and so different from the others I’ve listened to Christine Lakin do before. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown was about vampires and Parasitology was about parasites and the end of the world basically. She has a wonderful narration style and to hear her doing romance and not any horror combined with the romance was pretty great.

I’ve never been one to follow royalty in real life or care about that stuff at all but I found that I was enthralled with it in this book! The second half of the book did have a lot more of royal life and following rules and what the royal family has to say but I still really enjoyed the whole thing. I’d highly recommend this book to any fans of the genre.
