Leaning into Love was first released as part of It Was Always You Anthology; I never read that one, but I love a good friends-to-lovers trope and I generally enjoy Lane Hayes’ works, plus I really enjoy audiobooks. I’ve been going through them left and right lately so I was excited to listen to this one.
As this was originally a part of the anthology I expected it to be short, novella length, and it was around 3 hours or so. The narrator worked really well for me, I can usually tell within about 5 minutes whether or not that’s going to be the case and it was no different here. He was able to flip between the dialogue and the romantic times smoothly and I find that is not always true so I appreciate it when I find that in a narrator.
Eric and Zane have been best friends for over a decade; although in high school they weren’t exactly in the same groups of friends – they still managed to remain tight. When Eric’s ex gets engaged the two go to the engagement party together and that kicks off the two beginning to see each other as something more. I really enjoyed the evolution of their relationship we get to see take place. It felt very organic to me, with some fumbles here and there, and awkward moments.
The sailing parts were great – that isn’t something I’ve read much about in any of the tons of books I’ve read. But the highlight for me was the epilogue, I’m a sucker for a good epilogue!
