The Smallest Part was exactly the book I needed to bring me through a book slump.

“Are you in love with Noah, Mercedes?” Cora asked. If it had been anyone else Mercedes would have stuck out her chest, folded her skinny arms, and let her feelings be known. She would have claimed him. But it was Cora, so Mercedes lied.

Mercedes, Cora and Noah have been best friends since they were eight-years-old. Of course, as they grow feelings for each other grow to more than just friends. This is NOT a love triangle. What is it then you ask? It’s many things … heartbreaking, mysterious and intriguing are the first words that come to mind.

Have you heard the song Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton? I kept hearing Toni singing as I read this story. Romance novels usually break my heart in some way. I spent most of the book practically begging the author to unbreak my heart! Harmon does indeed break it, but thankfully she puts all the pieces back together again.

I love a good romance story. One where you spend the entire book craving the couple getting together. And when the story is done right and they finally do … HAVE MERCY!! All is right with the world again. The Smallest Part is well written so that the pages couldn’t flip fast enough beneath my fingers. I laughed, I cried and I closed the book happy with the ending.
