This is book 2 and I didn’t read book 1 but went straight into this and I was happily just fine without knowing anything that came before it so yay to that! This author is one that I’ve had on my TBR for awhile so I’m glad I finally read something by her. And I liked it so much I went back and have already since read the first book.

We have Jett and Adrian at the heart of this book and the author plays with a lot of tropes and standards that we’re used to and I completely love that. Jett is difficult to deal with, considers herself broken, and is generally just a sarcastic heroine. All of which are reasons why I love her. Adrian is in a band – but is such a gentle soul, and also a Nurse. The two are thrown together suddenly and then decide to keep going under the guise of helping him get over his ex. I absolutely adored how sweet Adrian was, he’s incredibly considerate and attentive to everyone around him.

My favorite part of the book after Jett is the bandmates. They have this great camaraderie that cracked me up. There’s nothing I like more than good banter in books, and Six de los Rios gives good banter. It gave this whole book a very real sense of friendship and also helped develop the relationship between Jett and Adrian. There’s also a great subplot with Jett and her mentally abusive ex-boyfriend which felt very realistic to me as she struggles to come to terms with realizing she doesn’t need him.

OH and Jett struggles with incredibly painful periods – so painful she is getting treatment for them and has to take pain medication. For that to be on page was pretty big to me. Even bigger? That she starts a very painful period while at Adrian’s and he takes care of her. That felt pretty huge to me.

Like I said, I’ve already went back and read book 1 and I have another of this author’s books as well. I hope more pick hers up!
