If you are an animal lover who has not read a Cameron novel before, you need to remedy that now!

A Dog’s Courage brings Bella back into our lives. Readers were first introduced to Bella in A Dog’s Way Home. While you do not need to read A Dog’s Way Home to enjoy this story, I encourage you to do so because it will enhance your enjoyment of A Dog’s Courage.

Bella was once a lost dog, who now lives happily with her people, Lucas and Olivia. Then a camping trip turns into a harrowing struggle for survival when the Rocky Mountains are engulfed by the biggest wildfire in American history. The raging inferno once again separates Bella from her people.

A Dog’s Courage opens with a gripping and engaging prologue. The story that unfolds is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I found myself needing to read as much as possible until I finished. Finding spare minutes whenever I could because I wanted to know what was next for Bella. And Bella is always off on another adventure.

I cried a few times while reading this book, but my favorite moment is when Bella is reunited with one of her old friends. I fear saying more because I do not want to spoil the story for others. She encounters other friends along the way that I wasn’t as excited to see, but it was still also nice to get an update on their stories.

After reading Cameron’s stories, I find myself wondering what my four cats are thinking. I don’t know how he does it, but Cameron pawsitively (sorry! I couldn’t help it!) nails the telling of the story from a dog’s perspective. A Dog’s Courage is brought to a satisfying conclusion, but I hope there are more Bella stories to come – maybe one where she is not lost this time.
