This is book 2 and I didn’t read book 1 but went straight into this and I was happily just fine without knowing anything that came before it so yay to that! This the companion book to Julie Murphy’s hit book Dumplin’, which is soon to be a movie, a book I loved. We’ve already met both main characters of Puddin’ in the previous book so it’s nice to have everything already established for us and get to jump right in. What’s great is you don’t have to read the first book to get what’s happening – either way you would be completely fine with your point of entry, and that is really important to have and I appreciate that the author was able to manage that here. This is book 7 in The Holmes Brothers series by Farrah Rochon. I haven’t read all of them – because this author is new to me this year – but I’ve read a few others by her so I was looking forward to it when I got this book. The main reason was because this book is about an established, married, couple! I really loved being able to root for this established couple and watch them fight for their HEA. For better understanding of the characters and more nuance obviously reading the rest of the books is good but I don’t feel that you’d be lost at all with this one, which I’m sure is intentional on the author’s part.
