I finished Two Days Gone a couple of days ago. I sat down to write my review and couldn’t recall what the story was about!
To refresh my memory and give you a look at the story line, here is a brief synopsis … What could cause a man to suddenly snap and destroy everything he has built? This is the question that haunts Sergeant Ryan DeMarco after the wife and children of beloved college professor and bestselling author Thomas Huston are found slaughtered in their home. Huston himself has disappeared and so is immediately cast as the prime suspect.
Now that my memory has been refreshed I can say that Silvis has written a good book. It kept my interest until the end because I needed to know the who and the why. BUT! While I was surprised by the who and the why, I was also thinking, that’s it? I suppose I thought the motive was lacking. I guess I expected a deeper motive because of how brutal the crime scene was. Perhaps, I couldn’t place myself in the killer’s shoes and couldn’t fully appreciate the hurt?
I enjoyed DeMarco and the look the reader gets at his life. I didn’t find that it took away from the main storyline at all. In fact, I found his story more interesting and believable and wanted a deeper look at what made DeMarco tick.
In closing, I would recommend this book for the mystery/thriller lovers out there. It’s not the best book I’ve read in the genre but it’s also not the worst. It simply didn’t leave a lasting impression on this reader.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.
