Title: He Will Be My Ruin

Author: K.A. Tucker

The prologue was captivating and grabbed me but …

Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s, Celine’s, belongings after an apparent suicide. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed Xanax and vodka, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers secrets in the childhood lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions.

On the hunt for answers that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

The prologue did grab me. In those few pages I felt intensity, fear and suspense. While the book was well written and there was a twist I didn’t expect, the rest of the book didn’t leave me with those feelings. I found some of Maggie’s actions unbelievable and that made her unlikeable to this reader.

This was my first K.A. Tucker book. I have several more on my TBR. While this book wasn’t as good as I expected, it won’t stop me from reading any other of her works.
