Title: The Girl From Summer Hill

I was extremely excited when I was approved by Netgalley to read the first in a new series by one of my most beloved romance writers, Jude Deveraux.

The Girl From Summer Hill is a modern day version of Pride and Prejudice in more ways than one. The local theatre in small town Summer Hill, Virginia is featuring Jane Austen’s play for their summer production. To their advantage is the fact that mega-movie star Tate Landers is spending the summer in town and has agreed to portray Mr. Darcy. The way in which Jude introduces Tate and his love interest Casey (who also happens to play Elizabeth in P&P), is one of the most eye-opening, heart pattering, OMG moments I’ve read in quite some time…very hot! This opening scene sets the stage for their relationship which parallels that of Darcy & Lizzy.  Also parallel to P&P are the relationships of the secondary characters; some quirky, some villainous, who also have parts in the play. I can see these secondary characters having their own stories in subsequent Summer Hill novels.

Although I’ve yet to read Pride and Prejudice, (gasp!), I was so entertained by Ms. Deveraux’s  wonderful witty story telling, that I may have to push Ms. Austen’s version up on my reading list!  I highly recommend The Girl From Summer Hill!
