I won a paperback ARC from the publisher a few weeks ago and just about lost my bookish mind with excitement when I did! I’m a total fangirl for Elle Kennedy in all her many permutations as an author. She writes pretty amazing New Adult sport books I love, M/M romance with Sarina Bowen that I love, YA drama filled books with Jen Frederick that I love (can you sense a theme here?) but I fell in love with her as an author with her adult romances. And very adult romances they are!

It’s been a while since I read a good adult post-apocalyptic book. I got burned out on this genre when I read so many when they got super popular a little bit ago. But this reminds me a little of Kit Rocha’s Beyond series – very adult but also really fun. Jamie and Lennox are best friends that have been watching each others back for years. Literally 20 years now since they were very young and they were all they had in the world.

The first part of the book is a nice introduction back into this world but still doesn’t feel like a recap because there is some very important information with new threats to the camps to worry about. When Jamie and Lennox head to Reese’s camp to train their people the plot starts to pick up in new ways as we get to meet new characters and revisit old friends there.

I really loved watching the heat between these two friends develop as they give in to the chemistry they have together. Kennedy does an amazing job of creating the heat and making it get hotter and hotter. The relationship between the two is far from simple and neither want to ruin the friendship they have. Jamie is fantastic and a strong willed woman who can take care of herself while Lennox is an incredibly strong man who loves that about Jamie. That combination was explosive together for me.

Overall I loved the book and the secondary cast of characters just made it even better. It was really fun to watch the training take place with the people from Reese’s camp. Those scenes may be my favorite! This book releases next week – you should definitely buy it!
