I’ve been in a bit of a book slump so I had no idea what I was going to write about for this week’s blog post, but then I woke up this morning to an email from Audible highlighting As You Wish by Cary Elwes as today’s Daily Deal and my decision was made.
Inigo Montoya: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you.Westley: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die.
As a HUGE fan of The Princess Bride, it was a no brainer that I would be reading As You Wish as soon as it was released. And I started to read the hardcover and it was good…but then I decided to try the audiobook and magical things happened. Cary Elwes is a wonderful actor and a great speaker making him the perfect person to self-narrate a book, but when you add in the amazing cast of characters that make up The Princess Bride the books takes on a whole new life.
Vizzini: INCONCEIVABLE!Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word, I don’t think you know what it means.
Christopher Guest, Carol Kane, Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Wallace Shawn, Robin Wright, and Billy Crystal round out the list of narrators and each one brings with them the same vivacity that they had when performing their original roles in the film. Listening to Elwes and his friends share their best, worst, funniest, saddest, and some downright wacky moments from the making of The Princess Bride is nothing short of wonderful. Reading or listening to the book, it feels like you’re sitting with Elwes and the rest of the cast while records the extra features on a DVD. Full of funny anecdotes and all the movie’s best quotes, As You Wish is a light hearted, quick read that will bring you simple joy. If you’re a fan of the movie you’ll adore it. If you’re not a fan I don’t think we can be friends any more. Now I need to watch the movie again…
If you’re reading this and the sale is still going on–BUY IT NOW! If not, this audiobook is well worth an Audible credit and however you chose to read the book…
Have fun storming the castle!
