Paint the Stars is book 3 in Christina Lee & Nyrae Dawn’s Free Fall series, which is a new adult age range of male/male combining two authors that I’ve really enjoyed in the past. The earlier two dealt with mental health issues and anxiety in a sensitive way.

This book features Ezra, who we got to know in the previous two books briefly as the roommate that was introduced. He’s grumpy and not generally in a great mood all the time which quickly becomes clear is a cover. The other main character is Daevonte, a yoga instructor, who is very zen much of the time and likes to impart that zen-ness to others.

This book deals with a few different issues but the most interesting one that I haven’t read in romance books before is that Ezra identifies as demisexual. Demisexual means that the person lacks sexual attraction towards a person until they become deeply connected emotionally or romantically with that person.  This causes Ezra to shy away from touch and from people much of the time, whereas Dae is kind of the opposite and very flirty most of the time. It was interesting to see how the book dealt with this sexuality throughout.
