You know when you’re in the mood for a light-hearted romance? Something funny, not too serious, but with a happily ever after where the main characters have some heat? Yeah, I get in those moods quite a bit and Jill Shalvis is high up there on my list of authors to go to for that!
Nobody But You is #3 in the Cedar Ridge series and one of those books that, for me at least, was anticipated because of the lead up to it. We had heard via the Kincaids about Jacob and how worried everyone was about him in the first two book. And of course the anger his twin Hudson has toward him. But we hadn’t gotten any info from the man himself. I’m glad that Shalvis didn’t draw out the waiting even longer because I expected at least one more book before Jacob’s!
What I loved the most about this book was the humor. Every Jill Shalvis book I’ve read has had some humor to it but Sophie, the heroine, really cracked me up. She has a really feisty personality and was so resilient. I prefer the heroines in my books to be strong like that instead of super reliant on the hero. A little reliant is understandable but too much drives me insane. Sophie had that right independent balance.
“I can’t think in your presence.”
“Why not?”
“Because looking at you is like…it’s like walking down the chips and cookie aisle at the grocery store. I can’t resist you, and then I’ll forget why you’re bad for me.”
Beyond the humor, another key feature to a Shalvis book is family dynamics and this series has that in spades and it really satisfied me. I wanted to see Hudson and Jacob reunited and I wanted to see what the outcome of that was. The tension but love between them and the whole family throughout the book was great. And of course, above all else is the romance between Jacob and Sophie. This had heat and heart. Loved it!
