Intense from the very beginning, Darkness, by Karen Robards kept me turning the pages until the very end.
This romantic suspense tale features Dr. Gina Sullivan, an ornithologist who is tracking eagles on the island of Attu, off the Alaskan/Russian coast with her colleagues. While trying to return to camp during an intense storm, Gina, alone in her boat, witnesses a plane being blown out of the sky. Amazingly she realizes there is a survivor struggling to stay afloat in the frigid ocean. She miraculously manages to save Cal, who is very evasive about who he is and why he was blown out of a plane. Grateful for saving his life, Cal promises Gina that he would safely get them off of the island, now teeming with bad guys trying to finish what they started with Cal’s plane. Needless to say, a love interest begins between Cal and Gina, both incredibly attracted to each other. Their adventure on the island, although at times a bit unbelievable, is filled with lots of action and thrills. This was the kind of book that is over before you know it, a fast-paced, well-written, and very enjoyable with strong likeable characters.
