I already effusively talked about how much I love Nalini Singh earlier this year so I won’t get into that yet again but Rock Wedding comes out today! This is the final book in her Rock Kiss contemporary series, which was a departure from her more paranormal roots. Each book has featured a different band mate and given us a glimpse at their friendship and for me this book was the perfect ending to the series.
At the beginning of the book Abe and Sarah broke my heart almost immediately and it was clear that where I thought this was going to go was definitely not going to happen. Abe was a complete asshole from the start and when Sarah remakes herself as a successful I was cheering for her and wanting her to be able to say ‘screw you’ to Abe since he scarred her pretty well.
This story gave me all the feels from start to finish. Singh has an exquisite way of describing everything here from the emotions of heartache to the perfection of a 5 star meal. All of these details really came together to lend itself to more emotion in the book. I enjoyed watching how much Sarah grow from the beginning of the book to when Abe and she began talking again. It was such a transformation, yet really a believable one given what she had gone through. Speaking of believable transformations, Abe’s was just as believable.
She had to keep her distance if she was to have any chance of protecting her battered heart. Because this Abe? The one who sent her glowers and books and who dropped by to make sure she was all right? He was more dangerous than the man who’d broken her to pieces.
But back to the feels. I seriously cried twice while reading this book – and I’m not one to cry at the drop of the hat! There was more than one wedding featured in the book and I cried at the descriptions of everything from the camaraderie to the dress to the vows. This was an emotional rollercoaster of a book from start to finish and it was such a wonderful conclusion to the series. I loved how it finished everything with the band but also included so many great scenes with everyone throughout the book.
The exciting thing is that there will be a connected contemporary story about Gabriel’s brother! So, while this is the end of the series, it’s not quite the actual end of everything.
