Lauren Dane is yet another prolific author I love! I’ve whipped through most of her backlist, but the one genre of hers that I have yet to try is any of her paranormal books for some reason. This is my first one and it was so good! I foresee a binge on all of her previous paranormal books now.
Moonstruck is such a delightful combination of two of my favorite sub-genres: small town contemporaries and paranormal romances. I was so excited when I read it because of that combination. Jill Shalvis is another author who does small town romances well and this reminded me of combining one of those books with a really wonderful paranormal book.
Diablo Lake is literally a magical place, one where witches and shifters and more occupy the same space. Katie Grady is a witch who left Diablo Lake after being left at the altar but is back a few years later to help her family out. I loved Katie from the beginning. She has a fiery attitude and a fierce love for her family and friends. Watching her come into her own and her power over the course of the book was awesome. Dane writes some of the best heroines there are and is definitely one of the reasons I keep coming back to her books over and over.
The combination of the paranormal and small town elements were wonderful. It surprised me at how well they came together! Two clans of werewolves had intense political strife and with the typical small town politics added in gave it more edge that I wasn’t expecting. I loved that unexpected combination. The Dooleys and the Pembreys have a fantastic friction going on and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I also loved the romance between between Jace and Katie, unsurprisingly. I really enjoyed watching it unfold over the book. The cast of secondary characters were also pretty amazing – but again not surprising since this is a Lauren Dan book. I always love the characters in her books! I can’t wait to read the next book.
