Many years ago, I read every Danielle Steel book I could get my hands on. I’ve only recently picked up her books again and was excited to receive a copy of Beauchamp Hall from NetGalley.
Winona Farmington dreamed of graduating from college and moving to New York City, but things didn’t turn out as planned when she had to return home to care for her sick mother. Years later, stuck in a job she doesn’t love and an unsatisfying relationship, she consoles herself with binge-watching a British television series, Beauchamp Hall. When Winnie experiences one of the worst days she can remember, she makes an impulsive decision to fly to England to see the town where Beauchamp Hall is filmed.
While I couldn’t relate to her on a personal level, I simply liked Winnie. I found her character believable and think her circumstances will be relatable to many. This book is no mystery and you guessed right if you think it ends happily. While I enjoyed the ending, it came too quickly. Steel missed giving readers more details in the end that I believe would have made the ending more satisfying, more believable.
Beauchamp Hall was exactly what I needed … a quick read with enjoyable characters and an engaging storyline. However, the repeating of details, which I hope was cleared up with a good editing, and an ending that hit me like a freight train rather than a slow easing into the station, kept this from being a solid 4-star read.
Am I glad I read this book? Yes! Will I continue reading Steel’s books? Absolutely! I think this book will hit the right note with readers who have that one show they love. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to the set of their favorite TV show?
